Flu season is right around the corner! Germs live everywhere – in the air, on food, plants and animals, in the soil — and on just about every other surface including your Xerox printer. Whether it’s the common cold, seasonal flu, or COVID-19 virus, it’s that time of year when illnesses seem to spread faster.
Let’s talk about cleaning the commonly touched surfaces of your Xerox printer, such as the panels, buttons, display screens, touch screens, and doors or access handles. Disinfecting these surfaces will kill germs and lower the risk of spreading infection.
To help our customers maintain a healthy work environment, we created this guide to help you clean the surfaces of your Xerox devices properly.
The following guidance is applicable to surfaces of multifunction devices, printers, and presses.
- Wear disposable gloves made of latex or nitrile gloves when cleaning and disinfecting surfaces.
- Turn off the device, disconnect AC power, and unplug device from the outlet before cleaning. Do not clean a product while it is powered on and plugged in as it may cause electrocution.
- Follow the instructions in the guide carefully regarding the solution to use and proper handling of it while cleaning the surfaces of your printer.
- Do not spray any liquids directly onto the product.
- Take care to prevent moisture from entering inside the product or between gaps around the control panel or buttons. Disinfectant entering the product may result in extensive damage or failure due to corrosion.
- Be careful not to rub the control panel strongly as it can be easily scratched or cracked.
- Ensure surfaces have completely air-dried before turning the device on after cleaning. No moisture should be visible on the surface of the product before it is powered back on.
- Discard gloves after each cleaning. Clean hands immediately after gloves are removed.
