Arbor Day – Xerox, PrintReleaf and Trees

Today April 26, 2019 is Arbor Day.  Arbor is the Latin word for tree. Did you know that there are approximately 8,333 sheets of paper inside every tree? In celebration of trees and Arbor Day let me tell you about the partnership between Xerox and the PrintReleaf program. The partnership is based on the concept “you print one, we’ll plant one”.

Xerox Managed Print Services (MPS) participants around the world have the opportunity to contribute to the reforestation of the world’s forests.  PrintReleaf uses paper usage reports to determine the number of trees needed to reforest for your usage. MPS participants can add PrintReleaf to their MPS contract. You pick the project you would like to support and the trees will be planted there to offset your paper use. Read more about this opportunity in the press release and see if it will help you meet your sustainability goals.

The trees are planted in geographic areas of need. The global reforestation projects are in the following locations: (click links to read about the individual projects)

The United States project is in South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation of the Oglala Lakota Native Americans.  The Pine Ridge Project is addressing the need for greening the landscape in two historical wildfire areas totaling 20,000 acres to combat a wide-range of environmental challenges.

In the past year Xerox along with clients and PrintReleaf have reforested more than 100 thousand trees across the world, offsetting nearly 1 billion pages and 200M lbs. of carbon dioxide. Please take a look at this short video about the PrintReleaf program.

Enjoy your Arbor Day and do your part to save a tree or plant a new one.  The earth and our future generations will thank you.
