Fault Codes: How to Look Them Up

Picture it — You are having a perfectly calm and uneventful day and then it happens…a fault code on the Xerox printer!! Your pulse quickens and your mind reels, you begin wondering what did I do? What should I do? Is the fault code my fault? Has anyone seen me here? Can I get away without anyone seeing me? Well calm down take a deep breath and let’s try to make this a little easier.

First a fault code on your Xerox printer and or multifunction device is not always as disastrous as you might imagine, no reason to slink away from the machine. The fault code is just a way for your machine to tell you there is a problem and it needs some help. Next write down the complete code and any accompanying error message, the fault code will be numbers and/or letters and may include commas, periods or hyphens. Then find a device on which you can access the internet. At the computer or smart device go to Xerox.com, select Support and then from the drop-down menu select the Support and Drivers link. Enter the model of your Xerox printer or multifunction device in the field provided and then select the machine and select Support. On the machine support page you will see the “How to Search for a Fault Code” (circled in red in image below) listed in the Featured Content section. Review the How to Search for a Fault Code solution. You can enter the fault code in the search box right above the Featured Content section and click on the magnifying glass to start the search (indicated by the red arrow in the image below).

Once you locate the code click on the link and you will be presented with solutions you can try to fix the issue causing the code. Not all codes require service. Many can be solved by the operator, that’s you. So don’t slink away and leave it to someone else just look it up and give resolving the issue yourself a try. It will get your machine up and running sooner and make you the office hero.

    016-573 is the fault code. We need to know what it means and how to fix it.

      Hi Janis,
      Thank you for reading the At Your Service blog. You do not mention which machine you are using. Usually the 016-??? codes indicate an issue with the network. I would suggest turning off the machine disconnecting the network cable and turn the machine on with out the network cable attached. If you get a code then search for that code on the support page for your machine. If you do not get a code then there is something not right with the networkd setup. Contact your Network Admin. for additional assistance.
      If the problem continues please consider contacting your local support centre.

    I have a WorkCentre 7845. It has a status code of 22-513-04: Queued job needs resources. User intervention is required to supply resources required for one or more queued jobs; jobs will be held until resources are available. Device services are unaffected.

    It says the skill level is “untrained”–that may be so, but I have to find what the status code means first, and I have been unable to do so. Can you help?
