Update Note December 10, 2015:  Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan driver for the WorkCentre 6015 is now available.

We have some updated information to share with those of you that have upgraded to Apple Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan. Please take a look at the compatibility document for El Capitan. This document lists the printers and multifunction printers and will let you know if a driver is available and if one will be developed for the models of the printers. I have no dates for the delivery of the drivers.

Workarounds have been suggested to get printing working on the Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan.  These workarounds have come from other customers and end users of Xerox printers and multifunction printers, as such we can not guarantee that they will work for you. You try this at your own risk and should consult your IT person or department before trying these options. I will list the workarounds here and also list the machines for which the workaround is suggested. Some products do not yet have a driver for Mac OS X version 10.11 (El Capitan) posted on Xerox.com at the support site.  When that is the case, it means that no driver has passed compatibility testing by Xerox. This means it is not completely confirmed to be ready for use in 10.11.x.
In that case, there are several options. These options should be attempted in the order listed.

  • Install the 10.10 driver
  • Install the Generic driver built into OS X
  • Print via AirPrint (also built into OS X)
  • Change security settings while installing the 10.10 driver

Workaround 1 – Install the Apple Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite driver
Install the 10.10 driver posted on the Driver and Download tab of the support page for your specific model printer.
Important Note: These drivers have not completed full testing on 10.11.x. (El Capitan) Some features may not work as they do under Mac OS X v.10.10.x (Yosemite).

Workaround 2 – Install the printer using the Generic PostScript Printer driver built into Mac OS X version 10.11 (El Capitan)
The Generic PostScript Printer is an Apple solution that is built into 10.11 (El Capitan). Please see Apple’s support site for installation instructions. See the section titled “Add a network printer by its IP address”.
This option requires that the printer or multifunction printer have PostScript capability which is optional on some devices.
This option allows use of a limited set of the printer’s full feature set. Not all features will be available.
This option may work with the following products:
Phaser 6022
WorkCentre 6027
This option may also work with the products listed in option 1 (with a more limited feature set than option 1).

Workaround 3 – Print via AirPrint
For products that will not work with options 1 or 2 above, the next option available is to print via AirPrint. The AirPrint printing system is built into Mac OS X.
The ability to print via AirPrint is built into 10.11 El Capitan. Please see Apple’s support site for installation instructions.
The feature set available when using AirPrint will be limited. The available features are more limited than those in option 2.
This option may work with the following products:

This option may also work with all the products listed in options 1 and 2 (with a more limited feature set than option 1 or 2).
IMPORTANT NOTE: the device must support AirPrint for option 3 to work.

Workaround 4 – Changing Apple Security Settings
For products where options 1-3 are not available (and there is not yet a 10.11 driver available at the support site) changing Apple security settings while installing the 10.10 driver may work. Xerox is currently working on Mac OS 10.11.x drivers for the printers listed below. In the meantime, contact Apple Support to help you temporarily disable the Mac OS 10.11.x’s System Integrity Protection. This will allow you to install the Mac OS 10.10.x driver (followed by re-enabling the System Integrity Protection) and use your Xerox device. Xerox recommends that you wait for the official driver release for Mac OS 10.11.x. This option may work with the following products:
