Apple® AirPrint™ and Your Xerox® ConnectKey™ Devices

tabletAirPrint™ is a driverless printing technology from Apple.  The technology let’s Apple devices print to the AirPrint compatible devices without installing drivers or downloading software.  The Apple devices that support this technology are iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch® and even Mac® OS X®.  The new Xerox® ConnectKey™ devices have been updated with the .dlm AirPrint enablement software.  To see if your machine does or can support this technology please review the ConnectKey portfolio.

This new technology can be helpful to all your employees and customers that utilize the Apple products that use AirPrint.  There is a comprehensive document that explains all the requirements for use of the technology.  The Xerox devices have AirPrint enabled by default.  But if for some reason the features is not enabled the document also includes all the set-up information you need to enable and configure your Xerox ConnectKey device.

The document also walks you through the steps to print from the various Apple devices that use the AirPrint technology.  A troubleshooting section is included to help you figure out any problems or issues you have with using AirPrint.  If you are or want to use AirPrint I know that you will find this document very useful.

Most of the ConnectKey devices that support the AirPrint have solutions in the Online support  for enabling and configuring the machines with AirPrint.  There are also AirPrint solutions on the Xerox Support Community Forum.  If AirPrint is something you would like to use give it a try with your Xerox ConnectKey Device.

Finding a table of Airprint capable printers with prices and features is impossible. So, gathering info quickly to recommend a printer is laboriously slow on this site. Adding Airprint capabilities to the product page table list (i.e. digital-printing-equipment/multifunction-printer/enus.html ) and being able to filter by it (as “wireless” and “color” are valid filters) would speed up information gathering. When I spoke to an engineer he said some Color MFP under $1000 (for SoHo) had Airprint, but looking at the official list there is nothing to compete with HP’s $300 (street price) CLP 175nw MFP which offers Wireless print & scan through Airprint — thus iOS devices can print and scan without loading any software. This means that visitors do not have to go through an arduous process to print documents. Because of this, I told the engineer this is a huge selling point that should be emphasized to both SoHo and would trickle up to Enterprise. Displaying this feature to visitors has resulted in them taking this knowledge back to their companies and also buying Airprint printers in a domino effect — especially when they can afford to put one in each department (<$400) vs. each floor (~$5000). Oddly Xerox does not seem to want to compete in this market, which makes sense. However, I would think that Xerox would rather cannibalize its sales itself rather than have an outside company do it.

I’m have extreme trouble printing to our Xerox 7845. They have recently installed the password requirement to print to the machine. I know my password and have been successful in using it to copy. I have NOT been able to figure out how to print from my machine to the Xerox – I am not sure when/where to enter my password for the machine to know it is okay to print my documents. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      Hi Elise,
Thank you for reading the At Your Service blog. Please take a look at the support page for your machine for information on printing when accounting is enabled. Have the administrator of your printers check to make sure you are allowed to print and that your limit of prints has not been met. If you continue to have an issue please consider contacting your local support centre.
      Thanks,

When is the new firmware coming out that will allow Airprint to work again? I understand we can roll back the firmware to the 05000 version and it will work but we would like to remain current on the machine.

      Hi Mark,
Thank you for reading the At Your Service blog. You do not mention the model of your machine. Please take a look at the Apple AirPrint site and select the compatible products tab. If this does not help please consider contacting your local support centre.
      Thanks,

WE TEMPORARILY LOST POWER, OUR WORLD CENTRE 7225 SHUT DOWN AND WILL NOT RESTART, i PUSHED THE RESET BUTTON IN THE REAR OF THE MACHINE, UNPLUGGED THE UNIT AND PLUGGED IT BACK IN AND TURNED THE POWER OFF AND BACK ON, NOTHING WORKED

      Hi Rob,
Thank you for reading the At Your Service blog. Please take a look at the solution for no power. Also make sure that you try plugging the machine directly into a known working wall outlet with no extension power cord or surge protector to rule out either one of those as the source of the problem. If the power is still not coming on please consider contacting your local support centre.
      Thanks,

Xerox 7225 – machine will print for several weeks from ipad without problems – then it will start printing what appears to be postscript garbage wasting a lot of paper. Technician then must perform ALT BOOT which corrects the problem for a while – is there a patch or something that will fix this issue permanently?
