It’s Time to Spring Forward – Don’t Forget the Clocks on Your Xerox Printers!

It’s that time again, time to Spring forward on the clocks.  This Sunday March 10, 2013 is the day we lose an hour of sleep.  We set our clocks forward by one hour; that is if the powers that be in your area of the world have chosen to comply with this policy.  This is our way of gaining an hour of day light by manipulating the clocks and messing with Mother Nature.   It is important to remember to change your clocks forward one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday March 10, 2013.  Ok so you don’t have to do it at exactly 2 a.m. but just make sure you change the time or you will be late to your appointments or events on Sunday and people will know that you were not paying attention.

While you are resetting the clock on your bedside table, the oven, the microwave, the coffeepot, the VCR, if you still have one, your car, your wristwatch and anything else that keeps time, don’t forget to also make the change on your office equipment.  Now I know that some areas do not participate in the whole spring forward fall back thing so you folks disregard this information.   Here is a great site to find out where the spring forward will be observed.

Make the change on your Xerox printers and multifunction devices  so that your documents will keep flowing with the correct time, even if you are still feeling an hour behind.  If the device time is not set correctly it can cause confusion when you look at the time on faxes, activity reports, banner pages and other time sensitive reports and activities.  There is also the possibility that printing will not work if the printer and the network are not set for the same time. For information on updating the time please see the document “Updating Xerox Products and Solutions for Daylight Saving Time” or go the support page for your machine and search on “time” for detailed instructions on changing the time on your Xerox product.

If you need to know how to change the time and date via SNMP we have that information as well in the document “Changing Date & Time via SNMP”.  We also offer a document with the procedure to update the time on Xerox devices using Xerox CentreWare Web and Xerox Device Manager Xerox CentreWare Web – Updating Device Time

I will be tired till November 3rd  when we fall back.  I could go on and on about how this change messes with my circadian rhythms and how it leads to a loss of productive check out this article from Science Daily, and how it confuses my dogs and their schedule but since we are already losing an hour I don’t want to waste any more of your time!!

“Time is nature’s way of keeping everything from happening at once”.  This quote is attributed variously to Albert Einstein, John Archibald Wheeler, and Woody Allen
