Xerox CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS) Multifaceted Tool

 Have you used CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS)?  CWIS is a very useful tool available on Networked printers.  CWIS is the embedded HTTP server application that resides in the printer. Internet Services allows Administrators and Users to modify network and system settings on the printer from the convenience of their computers.   The CWIS allows you to program and check the status of the machine from the comfort of your office or cubicle.  I love this feature because I can do so many things without having to touch the printer.  This can save me time and the CWIS interface is so easy to use.  I can check the status of the printer, the paper trays and the consumables.  I can check settings and actually change settings from the CWIS screens.  Please be aware that some changes may require the Administrators password.  I can even upgrade the machines firmware from the CWIS.  Pretty much anything you can do from the User interface of the machine you can do from the CWIS.  All you need is the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the machine and you can access the CWIS.  The IP address will be a number split into octets.  Example:  123.456.789.   Why are these 3 digit sets separated by decimal points called octets and not triads?  Good question, the answer is each set of 3 numbers is 8 bits of information so they are called octets, okay granted that is a little confusing but all you really need to know is the IP address and you are in the CWIS.   

How?  Well simply open up a web browser of your choice, Internet Explorer, FireFox, or any other browser and enter the IP address in the Address field and press Enter / Return.   The IP address of your machine can be found on the Settings or Systems report.  These easy steps will take you to the CentreWare Internet Services where you will see several tabs that will allow you to program many functions of your machine.  Please take a look at this feature and head on over to the Support page for your machine and search on CWIS to see all the things that can be accomplished using this interface.   Explore the possibilities!!!

Below is a graphic of the opening page of the CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS).  Disclaimer:  not all machines will have the CWIS, your window may look different depending on the model of your machine and browser being used, 4 out 5 dentists agree, images may be larger than they appear, and results may vary.  (Just making sure you’re paying attention!!)

    I have a message in the alert section thats saying: “Automated print quality maintenance in progress. Print and copy services are disabled; other machine services unaffected.”
    But when I get to the printer it’s working ok.
    Any ideas?

    We use 3 Xerox 4112 machines here at the office. Does anyone know a way to save your address list, or edit the address book using Centreware?

    I just purchased a xerox 6015ni printer; trying to set it up to scan; typing the ip address into the address bar of a browser does not take me anywhere; unable to access CWIS. Any suggestions?

      Thank you for reading the At Your Service blog. Please make sure that you follow the instructions for accessing the CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS). Please make sure that the CWIS protocol is enabled on your machine. If your are able to print to the machine over the network and the CWIS protocol is enabled then make sure you are using the correct IP address for the printer. If none of this helps please consider calling your local support centre.

    I have a Xerox Workcentre Pro 232 and have the Global drivers installed and the copier/printer operations are working great. I wish to extend the use into using scanning and possibly emailing from the machine. I have not been able to access the printer via HTTP protocol to make use of these features. In vain, I came upon the CWIS 5922 and downloaded it. After some adjustments to Add Windows Services and installing SQL, I finally managed to get the CWIS to begin allowing installation. HOWEVER, after numerous attempts the CWIS installation process hangs up about 70-80% through this process. And unfortunately I have not been able to make use of any of the extended features the Pro 232 has to offer. I am running windows 7 Pro 64 bit SP1 on a Dell T1600. Are you aware of or know why the install process locks up, stalls? I even let it run overnight to no avail. Please help. I tried running it on my laptop which is windows 8.1 but that went nowhere fast. Will CentreWare be compatible with 8.1 anytime soon?

      Hi Chris,
      Thank you for reading the At Your Service blog. THe WorkCentre Pro 232 has scanning as an installable option. Do you know if your machine has that option installed? Please take a look at the solution for setting up scanning and see if this will work for you. As for CWIS that is preinstalled in the machine and will work if the machine is set up on a network. All you need to access CWIS is the IP address for the WorkCentre Pro 232. Open a browser and enter the IP address in the address field of your browser and it should connect to the printer. I am not sure what the CWIS 5922 is that you are trying to download. I do not see the 5922 listed as a machine here in North America so I cannot speak to the problems you aee with the install. Please consider contacting your local support centre for more information on that install.

        Thanks for replying, Indeed I am set up for network scanning on this Xerox machine. Although I am setup on a network, I am unable to access the machines IP. My browser doesn not allow it because the machine tells my browser, ” This device does not accept incoming connections.” Which is weird because I can print to it from a workstation, and I can ping it with its IP address. Also, IPP/HTTP is enabled. So I am confused why I cannot get in.
        I was referring to CentreWare Web version 5_9_22 available for download from Xerox. Its hangs up about 80% through the installation process. I thought maybe that software would help me access the WorkCentre Pro 232 to which I am trying to make work.
        Other than that I have the Global Driver downloaded and installed and working.
        I have scoured all Xerox support including forums and have found no solutions to my problem. If your able to help in any other way it would be greatly appreciated.

          Hi Chris,
          Did you make sure that the printer is configured for TCP/IP including the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Broadcast Address, and Gateway Address? If not please set those up. As for the CentreWare Web I am not that familiar with that program so please consider contacting support or posting on the Xerox Support Community forum to see if you can find a resolution.

      Thank you for reading the At Your Service blog. The default username is ‘11111’. The default password is ‘x-admin’ and must be entered in lower case letters. If these values do not work you will need to contact and no one knows what they have been changed to the you would need to contact your local support centre to have them reset.

    It seems I can’t get a straight answer as to whether you can print out meter reports directly from the Xerox color printers. It always says how to “view the Billing and Usage information and “view the counts, but what I want to know is whether my customer can print these meter/usage reports at the printer and not have to be connected to CentreWare. Can you tell me if you can just hit “;print” at the printer to print the meter reads?

      Hi Helen,
      Thanks for your comment. It will depend on which machine you are using. Generally you cannot print the usage/meter reports from a screen on the machine. On some of the printers you can go to the usage counters in the CentreWare Internet Services and select download to computer and it will download a .csv file that you can then open and print.

    We have an older DocuPrint C2100 printer. The CIWS version is very old (looks like 2006).
    I would like a newer version of CIWS for this printer but cant seem to locate that or firmware upgrade.
    Current firmware version is 200706201016 and memory is 128MB.
    Can you help and post some links to where I can obtain?

      Thank you for reading the At Your Service blog. The default username in CentreWare is ‘11111’. The default password is ‘x-admin’ and must be entered in lower case letters. You indicate that you are using 11111 as the password it should be the default username.
      NOTE: If the username or password has been modified, or forgotten, contact your System Administrator or your local support centre.

    Is there any way to add/update/delete the user or address book database at Xerox machine like we can do with SQL databases?

    Currently we use Device Setup from AWMS2 but it is pain for updating all of or 13 machines on by one. We also try using AWMS 3 server but user having slowness when Xerox machine contacting AWMS server when they try to login.

    If we know how to manage Xerox machine database, then we can develop a inhouse app to manage all of our machine together!
