Memorial Day and the Unofficial Beginning of Summer

Memorial Day weekend is, to many people, the official start of the summer season and end of another school year. It is a long weekend to spend grilling out and enjoying time with friends and family.

Before you head off to enjoy your long weekend use this time to print some documents from the Xerox template library to wrap up the school year. Teachers as the school year comes to an end you will find a special section just for education templates with award certificates, diplomas and bookmarks, just to name a few, that you can personalize and print for your students. So check out the templates for help with your classroom.

Another resource in the template library are beautiful full color posters like the one pictured here.  These posters have so many uses in school, to business, to post in your cubicle or office for your own enjoyment and / or inspiration.

There are also other templates that you might find useful as you honor Memorial Day and move into your summer activities. Review all the documents and print out or bookmark those that will help you out. There are instructions provided for using and printing the templates. Remember the templates are free to use and updated periodically so check back to the Xerox template library for new content.

Back to the holiday, Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is about coming together to honor those who gave their all in service to our nation. To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the “National Moment of Remembrance” resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time Memorial Day, for all Americans “To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to ‘Taps.”

Here in my area some Xerox employees will be volunteering at and walking in the Carry The Load march this Memorial Day weekend as part of their observation of Memorial Day.  If there is a Carry The Load event in your area consider participating or donating to the cause.

Enjoy your weekend and try to find a way to honor those that served us all.
