So I have been with Xerox for 24 years now and I have seen a lot of technology come and go. When I started we did not have PCs we had typewriters, and only black and white printers and copiers, but enough with the history lesson.
Today new products and features seem to fly out the door everyday. Sometimes I can’t keep up with all that is new and amazing. That was what happened with this new “Color by Words” technology. I am sure I got a memo or article about it but it did not stick in my brain till it was incorporated into one of the machines I work with regularly.
This Color by Words is amazing. I don’t really understand all the RGB, CMYK, Spot color, pantone stuff; it seems very complicated for someone that rarely had more then the 48 count box of crayons. I did get the 64 count box once but frankly I was not sure what to do with all those colors.
Anyway this new thing is amazing and works the way my brain works. I print out a picture of my cousin’s new baby on the Phaser 7500 and she looks like she may be descendant from a smurf a little on the blue side. So I know I need to adjust the color. But where to start?
Well imagine my surprise when I went to the driver and just had to choose Skin tone colors considerably less blue and voila she looks like a cute, pinkish baby. Of course I could have fun and choose Skin tone colors considerably more green and she will look like an Oommpa loompa.
There are so many options from making all the colors more sedate to making the purples a lot less zippy. I need to play with that one not sure what less zippy will produce. But it is great to be able to adjust the color by using normal phrases just to describe what I want.
I know we will be seeing this technology in more and more printers. If you want more information on this technology just click this link Color by Words and explore this new world of color control. You can even try it by clicking on the Try It block in the center of the Color by Words webpage!!
Well till next time remember the grass may be greener on the other side, but we can fix that with Color By Words and I bet their water bill is higher!
